Old-Fashioned Porridge – A Simple, Warming Breakfast

A classic, no-fuss porridge that’s creamy, comforting, and perfect for chilly mornings.

Serves 2

  • 160g (1 cup) oats
  • 480ml (2 cups) water
  • A small pinch of salt

Method

  1. Add the oats, water, and salt to a saucepan.
  2. Cook on low heat, stirring occasionally, for 4-6 minutes until thick and creamy.
  3. Once off the heat, stir in a splash of milk to cool it down slightly, or pour over a little cream after serving for extra richness.

Toppings & Serving Suggestions

  • Classic and my favourite: A sprinkle of brown sugar and a spoonful of fruit compote.
  • Nutty & Sweet: A drizzle of honey or maple syrup with chopped nuts.
  • Fruity Boost: Fresh berries, sliced banana, or stewed apples.

Simple, nourishing, and utterly delicious.

Enjoy
